Xue Liyong, pen-named Shen Chizhong, is a researcher and lecturer in Shanghai Museum of History(SMH); a deputy director of professional committee of SMH; a Vice-Chairman of Shanghai Food Culture Research Association; a member of Standing Committee of Shanghai Placename Society; a member of Standing Committee of Institute of Bibliography in Historical Records. Researching for such a long time that Mr. Xue is the expert in the history of Shanghai.
 
Before liberation, the area of Shanghai People's Square and the People's Park was a famous horse racetrack. The history of horse racing and horse racetrack in Shanghai can be traced back to the 1840s. After moving several locations, it became the largest racetrack in the Far East. What are the remains of racetrack left in Shanghai? What was the role of the race racing in "adventurers' paradise"? How to evaluate it in the process of urban modernization in Shanghai? This lecture will reveal the past history to the questions.
