09 December 2009

Cristina Bertrand, born in Madrid, Spain, had lived for 20 years in the United States, in Los Angeles, New York and Miami Beach , but now living in Shanghai.
Before completing her Ph.D. in Philosophy and Letters at the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain she was granted two Golden Campaniles awards at the International Art School of Siena during her studies of Fine Arts. Her doctoral dissertation on the Yi Jing book of Chinese philosophy is an interdisciplinary research in the fields of philosophy, history, social sciences and art and was accompanied by a collection of landscapes paintings inspired in the book.
Dr. Bertrand has painted more than 470 paintings that has been exhibited at galleries in Spain, the United States and Europe. Her style of painting is expressionistic with strong colors and unusual composition to portray the "internal" life of the object represented. Expressionism is the style requires a deep knowledge of the object painted, Yi Jing paintings have a symbolic expression of the meaning of each chapter.
She hopes that the Yi Jing expressed in landscapes paintings will exert a profound effect on the viewer and a heightened desire to truly understand the wisdom contained in the Yi Jing. In her book, she interprets the Chinese classic Yi Jing through philosophical seáis and expressionistic paintings, providing life guidance for the modern Readers.
