Soft sculpture/fiber art, an important arm in modern art, is a kind of both ancient and modern art category that has been receiving great attention in the circles of arts and architectures worldwide. From the ancient mat-rolling handcrafts, the weave of blanket and tapestry, and the genes of tapestry, we can all notice the elements of modern fiber art. Thanks to the application of specific material and its diversified expression, soft sculpture/fiber art can present in a plane, dimensional and spatial appearance. In addition, soft sculpture/fiber art is also a both functional and aesthetical form of arts. Nowadays, many soft sculpture/fiber art works have been displayed in some very famous public architectural spaces. Soft sculpture/fiber art and the environment set each other off, which makes its function being widely extended. Its close relationship with architectural environment has not only extended the original practical and decorative function of the fiber art, but also improved some indifferent senses in architectural space, greatly leading to an increased human atmosphere in the public space.
The lecture will focus on the interaction of modern architectural and the soft sculpture/fiber art, to interpret the glamour and the unique spatial artistic conception it generates.
Lecturer: Shan Zeng , Associate Professor
Shan Zeng, artist, works and lives in Hangzhou and Berlin, a Associate Professor of Department of Sculpture, China Academy of Art and a Member of German Artist Association. From 1986 to 1997, he graduated from the Oil Painting Department of China Academy of Art, Fine Arts Department of Kassel University, and the Graduate School of Arts Contextual Studies of Berlin University of the Arts respectively. Now he is the member of German Artist Association and chairman of Euro-Asia Culture and Education Advancement Society in Berlin. Shan's artworks take on a unique look. He also gets great achievements in Chinese and Western theory of art, as well as in international cultural exchanges and exhibition project planning. Shan's works have been awarded in international exhibitions and are collected by official organizations and collectors. The Book of Changes, the top of the classical theories in the Chinese culture, is the source of his spatial shaping research. Shan Zeng's art can reflect the spirit of the Eastern culture through interactions of forms, colors and dimension and also is a reflection of his introspection during his exploration of art abroad in the past decade.
