MoCA Creative Salon -- Body of book 16 September 2009
In 1996, I had my first Apple computer and connected to the Internet. At that moment I was still a college student. When I first knew about Internet, which made me to think about the nature of the book, I felt anxious. Nowadays, the capacity of Internet has grown bigger and bigger. Moreover about 270,000 pages of information can be stored within a CD-ROM, as well as sound and animation. It operates at the speed of light, changes the speed and media of memory. Hence, as an information carrier, what is the difference between the book and the Internet?
I cannot forget the joy from books, which was really personal and real. I began to read a lot of "books" that were regarded as "bodies" by myself - their structures, the relationships between unit and unit, their different representations and expressions, and how they affect and change the way in which texts are being written and interpreted. The book is not only a platform for text; it is itself the text, with terms and grammar; it is a metaphor, through physical evidence, for another body / thoughts. I have tried, through many trials, to examine those that have been taken for granted and rationalized structures, and tried to decipher its laws.
I hope to share with you some results of my thoughts and practices. I believe that only to re-establish the book's grammar, could it have a new development.
