The documentary screening organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art Shanghai will bring to the audience three documentaries of high quality. They are Fruitful Summer by Guo Jing and Ke Dingding, Dong by Jia Zhangke and Nostalgia by Shu Haolun.

Documentaries are sometimes called ¡°dramas in the neighbourhood¡±. The directors focus on the fragments in our daily life, recording the subtle changes of mood of laymen. These seemingly mundane fragments eventually fill up the history, extending it, allowing us to see our own reflections and to see into the future.

With humanity and awe of life, the creators of documentaries record the reality with their videos. They attempt to save themselves through the witness of others¡¯ life. To make a documentary is to fight a one man¡¯s battle: one has to endure the loneliness, the poverty and the sorrow from within so as to distill from it a happiness that can move the audience and themselves. With high respect for the four documentary directors, we would like to present the three pieces to everyone who has a passion for documentaries and life. We genuinely hope that they can move you too, in the same way they move us.
